The Neeraj Pandey-directed film starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu has experienced a disastrous debut at the Indian box office. Early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk reveal that the romantic drama earned just Rs 2 crore on its opening day. This film, which released alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah’s Ulajh, fared even worse than its competitor.
This marks Ajay Devgn’s weakest opener since his 2009 film All The Best, which earned Rs 1.82 crore. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha also underperformed compared to Devgn’s other releases this year, Maidaan (Rs 7.25 crore) and Shaitaan (Rs 15.21 crore). Despite hits earlier this year with Tabu and Ajay Devgn’s Crew and Shaitaan, respectively, the film’s opening day collections fell short. It fared worse than Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, which made Rs 2.4 crore and surprised trade analysts.
The film’s release was initially postponed due to Kalki 2898 AD dominating the box office, but this delay did not improve its performance.
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha had an overall occupancy of just 9.16 percent on its first day, with Delhi NCR showing 8.25 percent occupancy and Mumbai 11 percent. The film received negative reviews, making a weekend recovery unlikely. In contrast, the Hollywood film Deadpool and Wolverine performed well, earning Rs 4.25 crore on its second Friday, surpassing both Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Ulajh combined.
